Love—Aiming for Love

Spending time with a child is one of the most important steps of loving a child. When you give a child focused attention, that’s an act of love and when you listen to the child, that’s another act of love. When you tutor from the heart, you actually love from the heart. Consider this: When you’re sitting right next to the child, there’s contact. When you begin to give the child your focused attention, you begin to fill the child with love. This loving attention brings healing into a child’s life. For example, when you praise the child and tell him that he did an excellent job, you make him feel good. When a child is learning in this loving environment, he will learn quite well. In this environment, you can tailor your education according to the child’s learning style because you have one-on-one time with him. When we start setting up deadlines, we might get frustrated and we end up not loving well.

General Instructions

I have used these materials with my children for over thirty years. My greatest desire for you and my concern is this: I do not want you to experience frustration with your child. The goal should be to be about love—not teaching the child to read. The first step is having the child become familiar with the word. The first thing I did was to just have my child be able to say the word. I would make it into a game to see how fast they could say the words (this is about the encyclopedia word list). The next thing I would do is say the word slowly and show him the word with my finger. My finger is under the word and I’m doing it slowly. You can get a lot of this from the 100 easy lessons book. There’s a book that I call “the blue book.” I admire this book greatly. I almost think it’s like a supernatural or magical book. I have experienced this book for over forty years. When a child is young, we just want them to be able to say the word. We want them to be able to hear the world and say it. We do not want to be pushing the child. If you don’t know the word, then you can Google it to hear it. I hope this information will give you a map of how to possibly use this website and I hope the end result is that it will be a help to you. I hope in the long run it will reduce stress in your family life. Schoolwork can bring some stress in your life and I want to make it easy for you.

Blue Book Instructions

On the first lesson of the blue book, there are seven letters. The desire is not for the child to know the name of the letter, but to know the sounds of the letter. It could possibly take a month or more to know these sounds. One possible way of teaching this is to have the child repeat letter sounds after you, such as the letter and the sound makes. They repeat the sound of the letter and not the name of the letter. Another game you can play is to say “fuh” and have the child point to the letter f. They say “fuh” and you point to the letter. You can also write the letter large on a piece of paper and hold it up. If they say the sound “fuh,” then have the child take a step forward. This blue book has helped people learn the English language. This book will help the child to read, speak, understand, and hopefully, with understanding you will be able to love better. Please take your time and don’t push your child. Find enjoyable times of doing it. You can do more than ten or fifteen minutes. You can do five minutes one time and five minutes another time, but make sure the child knows these seven sounds. This is foundational and this is building the base. When this base is filled then you can add on to this base and if the child starts doing really well for the first two or three lessons then you can go on. Take your time. I don’t want you to feel like you have to get something accomplished and I don’t want you to get frustrated. Stick with the blue book and if you learn to do the blue book then the child will maybe be able to read at a college level in less than a couple of years. I was told by someone closely related to this book that if you’re able to read the blue book then you’ll be able to read any word in the English language. Some possible benefits of doing the blue book are: your child will be a better reader, do better at school, understand more, become a better writer, better test scores, when you read stories you can have more experiences in life, and you can have a better understanding of the Bible. If you understand more, then you might not lie to yourself as much and you will end up loving people more. It will be easy to find imperfections in the blue book, but I would think that it would be foolish to throw the blue book out when it could still help you out.

Possible Ways to Motivate Your Child

What are some possible ways we can motivate a child to do reading and homework? We’ll go to the park or the zoo. We can watch a video and take a trip. You do this, we play the game. You do this, we go outside to play. Throw the child up in the air if he says the word right. Run around the house and say the word. Try saying the words right before naptime and bedtime. If it’s a choice between going to bed or reading then they’ll prefer reading over going to bed. Before I would drop my child off at preschool, we would spend some time reading.

Flip Chart

The flip chart is what I would call a phonics workout. It’s something added to the blue book, but in reality, all you need is the blue book. The phonics flip chart is just to give the kid variety or another approach.

Encyclopedia Word List

You can do this with a child who is three years old. These are the things I do with the encyclopedia. Again, it’s getting the child to be able to say the words a number of times and eventually they will be able to read the words. My main purpose for these words was to increase a child’s comprehension and understanding. Of course, one of the possible benefits of learning these words is I think they score higher on reading tests when they read and understand these words.

Words with Audio

This comes from the third grade word list. I think we accidentally discovered a way for a child to learn how to read by doing the words with audio. In conclusion, my main motive for all of this was to make school easy for my child. I believe if he read well then he would do well at school and in life.
